Store manager is not trained in inspection procedures
State court forces franchise to pay $5 million in damages

A franchisor of several Mississippi McDonald’s restaurants was provided by the corporate offices explicit policies and procedures detailing the need for frequent inspections to prevent customer slips and falls. Although the written materials detailed what needed to be done, the local store manager was never given skills-based training on how to actually do it.

The court found in favor of the 59 year old woman who sustained serious injuries, including a burst compression fracture to her L-1 vertebrae when she slipped and fell at the restaurant. The verdict included $3 million for non-economic damages including diminished quality of life all because the manager had not conducted regular inspections for cleaning up spills.
