Fast food chain fails to train workers in safety policies
Jury finds for plaintiff awarding $756,794 in damages
While visiting a Taco Bell in Dallas, Texas Deandre Gilkey slipped and fell in a puddle of clear liquid as he was leaving. Mr. Gilkey filed a personal injury claim on the basis of premises liability. During the trial, surveillance video showed Taco Bell employees noticing and pointing to the spill fully 34 seconds before Mr. Gilkey slipped and fell.
The store’s employees were never trained on Taco Bell’s policy to immediately remedy an unsafe condition or warn everyone the moment a dangerous condition is identified. Taco Bell was found negligent and Mr. Gilkey received a $756,794 settlement.
